Winter illumination is a very big and highly anticipated "thing" in Osaka, just like in many other major cities in Japan.


Osaka hosts some of Japan’s most spectacular and extensive annual winter events, collectively known as the Festival of the Lights in Osaka (OSAKA Hikari-no-Kyoen). If you are visiting Osaka in winter, here are some winter illuminations you should check out:

1. Midosuji Winter Illumination

This is arguably Osaka's most famous light-up, holding a world record for the largest number of illuminated trees on a single street. A 4 km stretch of trees is transformed into a gorgeous, multicolored "Light Path" that runs right through the heart of the city between Umeda and Namba.

2. Osaka Castle Winter Illumination

Held at the Nishinomaru Garden, this winter illumination event combines the grandeur of the historic Osaka Castle with a dynamic, immersive light show. The theme often revolves around Japanese history, featuring neon installations depicting samurai and historical tales.


Admission: 1,200 yen 

Hours: 5-10 PM

Dates: November 1, 2025 - February 1, 2026



3. Osaka Hikari Renaissance

Held at the Nakanoshima Park and City Hall Area, this is part of the larger Festival of Lights in Osaka. This event features projection mapping on the historic Osaka City Central Public Hall and creative light art along the Nakanoshima waterfront, Osaka's "water city" symbol.

4. Osaka Aquarium Winter Illumination

This is happening around the aquarium’s entrance. Ideal for families, this illumination features ocean-themed light installations like a giant light-up whale shark, jellyfish lanterns, and an immense aquatic-themed Christmas tree.

Dates: November 2025 - Late January 2026



5. Namba Hikari Tabi

This event bathes the bustling Namba district in approximately one million twinkling LEDs, making Namba Parks an especially enchanting urban wonderland.
