Kuromon Market Food Guide: Where and What to Eat at Kuromon Market

Wondering what to eat at Kuromon Ichiba (market)? We at Osaka Localized curated the 10 must-try foods at Kuromon Market and where to find them.

Kuromon Market is home to about 150 shops selling fresh seafood, fish, meat, fruits and vegetables, kitchenware, and whatnot. Located a few meters from Nipponbashi Station, Kuromon Market is also called “Osaka’s Kitchen," as the main source of most chefs in the city. That said, this century-old market is also home to many restaurants. Here are some of the must-try foods at Kuromon Market:

1. Sushi at Sushi Dokoro Kuromonsuehiro

One of the best sushi in Osaka, Sushi Dokoro delivers an authentic Japanese foodie experience with its range of sushi dishes paired with sake. The ambiance is really cool too. They also serve other delicious goodness such as grilled scallops.

2. Fugu at Futomasa Kuromonichiba

One of the locals’ favorite restaurants at Kuromon Ichiba for anything fugu (blowfish), Futomasa is a must-visit. Their tecchiri and tessa dishes are highly recommended as well as their grilled scallops and shrimp on skewers. You can guarantee their ingredients are fresh all day.

3. Fugu at Minami Fish Store

Another stall serving fugu, Minami Fish Store is worth visiting too. Their fugu dishes are cooked mainly in 3 ways: sashimi, hot pot, and deep-fried. Although they are a bit pricey compared to other stalls, we recommend at least trying their fugu sashimi.

Location: 2 Chome-3-20 Nipponbashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka

Hours: 8:00 am - 7:00 pm (closed on Sunday)

4. BBQ at Kushisei

Specializing in barbeque dishes, Kushisei is your best option for anything kushikatsu and kushiage. From crab feet to prawn to tuna belly to squid, all their grilled barbeque dishes are going to impress even the most sophisticated palate. They also have clam soup, which we highly recommend to satisfy your seafood soup cravings.

Location: 2 Chome-2-17 Nipponbashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka

5. Kobe Beef at Kobeya

One of the few restaurants at Kuromon Market that sell real Kobe beef, Kobeya is your go-to place for anything high-quality beef. Although it’s a bit expensive, the experience is worth it. They don’t have a lot of space inside the shop, so you might have to wait or go take-out instead.
